The LSS Audit skill is designed for Master Black Belts and senior auditors who need to run structured, evidence-based assessments of operational maturity. It evaluates organizations across seven critical dimensions, including methodology deployment, process standardization, and measurement systems, then transforms raw observations and process data into consulting-grade audit reports.

The skill enforces a four-phase engagement structure: Pre-Audit, Gemba/Data Review, Calibration, and Reporting. This prevents ad hoc assessments and ensures every finding is traceable to specific evidence. Findings are automatically categorized by severity, from Critical to Low, based on safety, compliance, and financial impact.

Maturity evaluation covers DMAIC/Lean governance, SPC and Control Charting, OEE, VSM currency, Takt time awareness, and Tiered Daily Management Systems. The skill includes specialized protocols for four sectors: Manufacturing, Service/Transactional, Healthcare, and Software/IT.

Output includes executive summaries, detailed finding cards with identified root causes, and phased improvement roadmaps spanning 30, 90, and 180 days. It also quantifies the Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ), giving stakeholders a financial anchor for prioritization. This skill is useful when an organization needs to move beyond superficial process improvements and identify the underlying causes of methodology abandonment.

Use cases

  • Assess an organization's DMAIC/Lean governance maturity and produce a severity-ranked findings report
  • Generate a phased 30/90/180-day transformation roadmap from audit observations
  • Quantify the Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) to support business case development
  • Run an industry-specific audit protocol for Manufacturing, Healthcare, or Software/IT environments
  • Produce ready-to-present executive summaries and detailed finding cards for senior leadership
  • Identify root causes of Lean Six Sigma methodology abandonment within an organization

When to use it

  • When a Master Black Belt or senior auditor needs a structured, repeatable framework for operational maturity assessment
  • When an organization requires evidence-based audit outputs rather than subjective evaluations
  • When findings must be categorized by severity against safety, compliance, and financial criteria
  • When the audit scope spans DMAIC governance, SPC, OEE, VSM, or Tiered Daily Management Systems
  • When a phased improvement roadmap with COPQ quantification is required as a deliverable

When not to use it

  • When the goal is transactional database queries or data retrieval rather than qualitative maturity assessment
  • When the audit scope falls outside the seven supported dimensions or the four supported industry sectors
  • When no structured input data or process observations are available to ground findings
  • When a lightweight checklist rather than a full four-phase engagement is all that is needed
